1st week in Office
26th August 2009
This is the day i joined in office. After failing in about more than 10 attempts and interviews to get a job, i had packed up everything and decided to return back to see if i can do any good with my to-do list. But on the last day of my stay in bangalore, i attended one more interview and got placed to my utter disbelief.
4th September
It's a week now I'm working and here is my take on my job.
1. Seems i became coffee addict. I can always be found around the coffee machine in the free cafeteria. I do not have the habit of drink coffee/tea in general. It's always Boost in home... even today! 90% of the Employees in the Engineering team smoke! Thanks, i'm in operations and the work is not stressful.
2. Work is quite ok ok sort. Feeling comfortable as the days pass and the day passes.
3. Made friends already in the department :) Few can understand telugu and there's one Telugu guy in my team.
4. Orkutting at the times of night shift is common among our network operations team and when i said i have no Orkut id, my team got surprised and shocked! They looked at me as if they were seeing an Alien. Thinking time would answer everything, i was not interested to tell them my Orkut expertise. At the time i swam across Orkut and closed it for personal reasons, they must have had learned the process to add/scrap friends.
5. The team got to know that I'm a freelancer and earn online. This made them generate interest on me and in no time i became a Guru for them. Questions on paypal, $ transactions, working online, online scams, how i earn, website that help, how do i know, to which clients i work for, where did i get that clients, where do i work online, how much i earned till now and such stuff poured in one after another. I started enjoying this strange feeling.
And this made them realize, having no orkut account need not necessarily proves a person to be internet illiterate!
6. It takes time for me to get adjusted here and so for all my team to get adjusted with me! Anyhow, this job is on a contract basis and for a duration of 4 months only.
7. People started saying.. "You are very fast. Please be slow, think slow and act slow." This is a pure contradiction to my style. I take faster, quicker, better decisions and act. Seeing me use the system and keyboard, the team lands up in confusion and they yell at me asking me to STOP :D
Hoping that in coming days they would learn to accept my speed or i would give up working speed.
8. Addressing and calling a team member, the team lead, team manager, manager and even the CFO of the company with their first name made feel different. The 50+ year old CFO runs in the office working, cracking jokes with the subordinates, smoking with them and loves getting called with his first name by any impressed me. Zero aTTiTude!
PS: Signing off at 3:45am :)
